CHOICES provides intensive one-on-one employment supports to all individuals that enter the Housing First Program. Housing First partnering agencies will refer individuals participating in the Housing First program to CHOICES. The Employment Counselor meets with an individual and develops an individualized service plan that may eventually lead to employment, volunteer opportunities, skill development and social skill enhancement.

The Housing First Program targets individuals who have been accepted into the Housing First Program

Other Services provided by the Housing First Program include:

  • Employment Readiness  Courses (Exposure)
    • CTST/OSSA
    • WHMIS
    • H2S Alive
    • Class 3
    • GED
    • and others
  • Resume and Cover Letter Development
  • In house workshops, such as:
    • Basic Computer Skills
    • Colour Spectrums
    • Interview Skills
    • Job Search
  • Job Search - online/paper application
  • Interview Preparation
  • Job Placement & follow-up Support (up to 1 year)
  • Outside Referrals:
    • Food Bank
    • EI
    • Alberta Works
    • Counselling
    • Shelters
    • and many more

Alberta Identification Program

Identification Program - All eligible applicants will meet with the ID Coordinator to review documents required to obtain their basic Alberta identification. Once sufficient documentation is obtained, the client and coordinator will then meet to discuss funding options for the ID and complete the process at registries. The coordinator works collaboratively with Alberta Human Services to assist the individuals in obtaining their ID.

In order for a client to participate in this program they must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 18 +
  • Be a resident of Alberta for at least three months
  • Be homeless or recently housed

Services provided by the Alberta ID program include:

  • Obtaining original documentation
  • If required, assistance with ID payment
  • Assistance with Birth Certificate application
  • Assistance with Alberta Health Card application
